The anatomo-functional connectivity of word repetition: insights provided by awake brain tumor surgery
نویسندگان
چکیده
Word repetition (WR) is the language process which consists of immediately saying a word after hearing it. This skill plays a crucial role in language development by enabling the learning of new words. Clinically, repetition skill participates in the classification of aphasic syndromes, and can inform about prognosis (Hosomi et al., 2009) and guide rehabilitation (Schlaug et al., 2009). In addition, uncontrolled pathological repetition termed echolalia is observed in neurological disorders such as autism. Despite improving knowledge of cortical networks underlying WR, its subcortical connectivity has received less attention. Here, we investigate the white matter pathways involved in WR.

Initial Experience with Brain Mapping under Awake Craniotomy for Resection of Insular Gliomas of the Dominant Hemisphere
Background & Importance: Insular lobe is located at the depth of sylvian fissure and is hidden by frontal, temporal and parietal lobes in close vicinity of internal capsule and basal ganglia and adjacent to the speech centers in the dominant hemisphere. Thus, radical resection of insular gliomas can be even more difficult. Brain mapping techniques can be used to maximize the extent of...
متن کاملDepth of anesthesia estimation based on EEG signal using brain effective connectivity between frontal and temporal regions
Background: Ensuring adequate depth of anesthesia during surgery is essential for anesthesiologists to prevent the occurrence of unwanted alertness during surgery or failure to return to consciousness. Since the purpose of using anesthetics is to affect the central nervous system, brain signal processing such as electroencephalography (EEG) can be used to predict different levels of anesthesia....
متن کاملAssessment of Anesthesia Depth Using Effective Brain Connectivity Based on Transfer Entropy on EEG Signal
Introduction: Ensuring an adequate Depth of Anesthesia (DOA) during surgery is essential for anesthesiologists. Since the effect of anesthetic drugs is on the central nervous system, brain signals such as Electroencephalogram (EEG) can be used for DOA estimation. Anesthesia can interfere among brain regions, so the relationship among different areas can be a key factor in the anesthetic process...
متن کاملLessons from Brain Mapping in Surgery for Low-Grade Gliomas: Study of Cerebral Connectivity and Plasticity
Radical surgical removal of WHO grade II glioma, when possible, appears currently the first treatment to delay the risk of anaplastic transformation. The goal of surgery is to maximize the quality of resection, while minimizing the risk of permanent neurological deficit. Thus, due to the frequent location of these lesions in eloquent areas, and because of an important interindividual anatomofun...
متن کاملEvaluation of Model-Based Methods in Estimating Dynamic Functional Connectivity of Brain Regions
Today, neuroscientists are interested in discovering human brain functions through brain networks. In this regard, the evaluation of dynamic changes in functional connectivity of the brain regions by using functional magnetic resonance imaging data has attracted their attention. In this paper, we focus on two model-based approaches, called the exponential weighted moving average model and the d...
